Dear Students, Families, and Friends of St. Edward Catholic School,
As we welcome November at St. Edward Catholic School, we enter a month that invites us to pause, remember, give thanks, and prepare our hearts. We begin by turning our clocks back one hour on November 1, and throughout the month we will recognize Treaties Recognition Week, Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week, and Canadian History Week. On November 11, our school community will mark Remembrance Day at the Westport Cenotaph, taking time to honour those who served and sacrificed for the peace and freedoms we enjoy today. Our students in Grades 6/7 will be actively part of this year’s ceremony.
November is also an important time to celebrate learning and strengthen the partnership between home and school. Progress Reports will be sent home November 17, followed by Parent-Teacher Interviews on November 18. These conversations provide an opportunity to celebrate student growth and identify next steps for learning. As a school we continue to place a strong focus on language and literacy, supporting our students as they develop confidence as readers, writers, speakers, and thinkers.
There is lots of excitement happening beyond the classroom as well. We were very proud to host our Soccer Fall Classic on October 23, welcoming seven other schools to Westport for a wonderful day of soccer. Looking ahead, our Grades 4–7 students will attend the Kingston Frontenacs OHL School Game Day on November 18, at no cost to families thanks to the generous support of our Parent Council. We are extremely grateful for their support in providing this opportunity for our students. Our youngest learners are also getting ready for something new as our Kindergarten students become the first group to begin using our 3D printer, transforming their ideas and designs into creations they can hold in their hands. November 26 will bring a little extra comfort to the school with our Dress Comfy Day.
Finally, as November draws to a close, we look toward the beginning of the Advent season. The First Sunday of Advent falls on November 29, beginning a special time of hope and preparation as we journey toward Christmas. As always, thank you to our students, staff, families, Parent Council, parish partners, and wider Westport community for the many ways you contribute to the life of St. Edward Catholic School. We look forward to another wonderful month of learning, faith, community, remembrance, and celebration together.
